# Reviewing a Submitted Personal Statement in Puddin

> Navigate to a submitted statement, explore the writing process evidence panels, and understand the review interface before recording a decision.

Once an applicant submits their personal statement, it becomes available for review in Puddin. The review interface gives you two complementary views of every submission: the final written document and the full record of how that document was created. Together, these help you build a complete picture of authorship before recording a decision. This page walks you through navigating to a submission and orienting yourself in the review interface.

## Navigating to a submission

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the cycle">
    From the Puddin Admissions dashboard, select the cycle that contains the submission you want to review.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to the Applicants tab">
    Select the **Applicants** tab to see the full list. Filter by **Status: Submitted** to show only applicants who have completed their personal statement.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the submission">
    Click the applicant's name to open their profile, then click **View Submission**. Alternatively, click the **Review** icon in the applicant's row to go directly to the review interface.

</Steps>

<Note>
  Only applicants with a status of **Submitted** have an active **View Submission** link. Applicants who are still in progress do not have reviewable submissions yet, though their writing activity is being captured.
</Note>

## Review interface layout

The review interface is divided into two main areas: the **Document Panel** on the left and the **Evidence Panel** on the right.

### Document Panel

The Document Panel shows the final text of the submitted personal statement exactly as the applicant submitted it. You can scroll through the document, select text to annotate it, and leave inline comments. The document is read-only — it cannot be edited by reviewers.

### Evidence Panel

The Evidence Panel contains four sections you can navigate between using the tabs at the top:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Writing Activity" icon="chart-line">
    A summary of the applicant's writing behaviour: total active writing time, number of sessions, words typed vs. deleted, and the overall timeline of document creation.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Paste Events" icon="clipboard">
    A log of every paste action recorded during writing, showing the pasted text, character count, position in the document, and timestamp. See [Paste Events and Revisions](/admissions/review/paste-events-revisions).
  </Card>

  <Card title="Revision History" icon="clock-rotate-left">
    A chronological record of all edits, deletions, and rewrites made to the document. See [Paste Events and Revisions](/admissions/review/paste-events-revisions).
  </Card>

  <Card title="Session Timeline" icon="calendar-days">
    A breakdown of each writing session — when it started, how long it lasted, how much was written, and whether any notable events (such as a large paste) occurred during it.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Review signals summary

Directly below the applicant's name at the top of the review interface, Puddin displays a **Review Signals** summary bar. This bar highlights any patterns in the writing process data that may indicate the submission warrants closer attention. Click **View all signals** to open the full signals panel.

For a detailed explanation of what each signal means and how to use them, see [Understanding Review Signals](/admissions/review/review-signals).

## Navigating between submissions

Use the **Previous** and **Next** arrows at the top of the review interface to move between submissions in your assigned queue without returning to the applicant list. The queue shows submissions assigned to you in the order they appear in the list view.

<Tip>
  Sort the applicant list by **Review signals: High → Low** before entering the review queue to work through the submissions that most warrant close attention first.
</Tip>

## Leaving review notes

You can add private notes to a submission at any point during review. Notes are visible to other reviewers and admissions officers assigned to the same cycle but are not shared with the applicant.

1. Click **Add Note** in the top-right area of the review interface.
2. Type your note in the text field.
3. Click **Save Note**. The note is timestamped and attributed to your account.

Once you're ready to record a formal outcome, see [Recording Review Decisions](/admissions/review/recording-decisions).
